JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Product Manager, Broadband is responsible for products for the broadband web environment, as well as the maintenance of multimedia product sets for the narrowband site. Working under the direction of the Product Directors and with other product team members, this individual will be responsible for the development and execution of multimedia solutions to extend and enhance the planner user-experience. The Product Manager, Broadband will manage a team of on-line video editors to provide 24x7 service to the site and its broadband partners. This individual must be able to work with and direct a diverse team of Multimedia Designers, Meteorologists, Content Producers, and Applications Developers and deliver products in rapid product development cycles to create a meaningful user experience. He or she must exhibit an understanding of consumer attitudes and culture of the web, particularly as they relate to the broadband environment, cultivated through product management in the media environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with colleagues both within the product team and with other departments within weather.com, develop broadband product solutions to aid in securing broadband distribution opportunities.
Manage cross-functional teams made up of diverse professionals, including project managers, application developers, and content producers to develop meaningful and useful products for the planner audience of weather.com.
Perform competitive and marketplace analyses to assess trends and guide team to create compelling products.
Seek out and interpret user feedback through a variety of traditional and non-traditional resources to guide product development.
Ensure the weather.com on-line efforts enhance user experiences, and support business strategies, consistent with predetermined guidelines.
Lead in the development of user products by managing the efforts of other organizations within weather.com to accomplish established goals.
Manage budgets, establish priorities, and allocate departmental resources.
Hire, train, and coach staff within the context of the company’s philosophy of continuous improvement.
Manage the on-line video editor team to ensure 24x7 coverage and maintenance to existing multimedia products, both those that appear on weather.com as well as on partner sites such as AOL.
QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge/ Skills/ Education):
Minimum 5 years successful business experience in product management; minimum 2 years in the on-line environment, experience working within the broadband/multimedia environment preferred.
Deep understanding of web culture and consumers.
Proven success in hiring, developing, and managing creative teams.
Undergraduate degree in this or other relevant field required.
Expert knowledge of multimedia production technology and steaming media delivery.
Ability to manage complex projects from conception to execution to modification as required in the online environment.
Experience managing cross-functional informational and technology focused teams, with a proven track record of successful project implementations.
Strong ability to organize information based on analysis of marketplace and user feedback, particularly in the online environment.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to manage a diverse work load and assign priorities to tasks, effectively directing the activities of others.
Ability to establish processes to ensure success of cross-functional teams, and manage project development to ensure short cycle times and a positive customer experience.
Computer software skills including MS Project, Visio, HTML, etc.
