Design, implement, and maintain wireless products and applications on weather.com.
Work with outside technology companies to evaluate new technologies and products, and integrate those technologies or products into the weather.com wireless platform (3Com, Sprint, AvantGo, etc.).
Research new technologies and application development tools/platforms.
Coordinate all systems integration and content publishing with Quality Control/ Publishing Team.
BS in Computer Science or similar field.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within multiple teams.
Minimum of 1 year experience with wireless development markup languages such as HDML, WML, and XML.
Minimum of 3 years programming experience in HTML and Javascript.
Minimum of 2 years required Perl programming experience.
Minimum of 2 years required UNIX experience - all applications are developed and run on Sun Solaris O/S.
Knowledge connecting to Oracle database to retrieve data.
Perl DBI programming knowledge desired.
Experience with content development within wireless applications such as Sprint PCS’s "Wireless Web," 3Com’s Palm VII, and AvantGo.com’s browser.
Experience with mail delivery programming (i.e. interfacing Perl and Sendmail)desired.
Experience with designing and implementing on-line content, applications, and/or web sites.
Experience in SQL database access techniques.
Experience developing for a Sun/Netscape web server platform.
Experience in PL/SQL, NSAPI, PERL, or DHTML.
Experience building database oriented web site.
Experience using an Oracle backend database from web based applications.
Experience working on a large-scale production web site.
Desire to learn technological standards as they are emerging. Wireless Internet is a fast growing field, and there are rarely resources to rely on for historical references or roadmaps.
Knowledge and understanding of commercial on-line services.
Must have familiarity with multiple browser environments and an understanding of compatibility issues.
