Job Title: Broadcast Systems Engineer

Location: Atlanta

Position Number: EMT012

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position is responsible for repairing and maintaining broadcast systems equipment and providing secondary IT support. This person will report to the Manager of Engineering Operations and will have no direct reports. This position is also jointly responsible for developing and maintaining Engineering standards and processes.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain records which include, but are not limited to, Engineering shift logs, Engineering Service Request forms, parts and equipment inventories, etc.

Ensures that system and equipment documentation is current and implements processes to continuously review and improve.

Be part of a team dedicated to continually improving the processes used to serve Engineering's internal and external customers.

While serving as Engineer On Duty, carry a pager and cell phone to provide immediate service to Engineering's internal customers.

Perform preventive maintenance of equipment as scheduled.

Perform daily checks to ensure proper operation of broadcast systems.

Perform equipment installations, equipment repairs, system repairs, and various tasks as assigned.

Stay familiar with the operation and maintenance of the Earth Station, and perform the daily checks as scheduled.

Demonstrate a strong desire to continually increase technical and operational knowledge of all equipment and systems used by The Weather Channel and The Weather Channel Latin America.

 

QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge/ Skills/ Education):

Required:

Minimum of two years technical training and a minimum of 4 years experience, as a maintenance engineer, with television broadcast systems, including analog and digital video and audio systems.

Be proficient in the use of related test equipment including, but not limited to, waveform monitors, vectorscopes, multi-meters, oscilloscopes, test signal generators, etc.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to relate to the unique needs and problems of a 24-hour operation with critical deadlines.

Must be able to manage several active projects simultaneously.

Can work with minimal supervision.

Exceptional interpersonal teamwork skills.

Desired:

Knowledge of the following equipment: Philips Jupiter/Venus/Saturn router and master control switcher, Louth Automation, HP MediaStream Server

Knowledge of Unix, Windows NT, LAN systems.
