The Senior LAN/WAN Engineer will provide Senior-level support for infrastructure hubs, switches, and routers. He or she will also provide Senior-level support for LAN/WAN wiring and connectivity infrastructure.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the analysis and definition of business requirements, functional design, and documentation efforts to further Internet/customer connectivity.
Work with the Network Operations Infrastructure group, ensuring that detailed designs provide for required functionality.
Coordinate maintenance and repair of all LAN/WAN infrastructure, including all network switches/hubs, routers, and external connectivity.
Establish or use existing processes to gather, define, and document emerging security products.
Support and define network software monitoring and quality control procedures. Work to continuously improve operations until it meets the customers needs. Be pro-active in tracking down issues and problems.
Set and attend meetings concerning network and Internet products.
Recommend and implement methods that continuously improve processes and people.
Solicit suggestions for better and more efficient ways of providing internet/customer access.
Participate in the alignment of team goals with the company’s strategic objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge/ Skills/ Education):
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar area. (Or acceptable experience.)
Certified Cabletron Router/Switch Engineer or equitable experience/certifications with Cisco/Bay router equipment.
Five years experience as a LAN/WAN engineer is a 24x7 support environment.
Strong background in routed and bridged protocols.
Strong knowledge in setup and design of LAN/WAN equipment.
Experience with Checkpoint Firewall and Nokia 1650 firewall hardware equipment a plus.
Experience with Unix, Windows NT, and other various operating systems.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to relate with sensitivity to the unique needs and problems of a 24x7 operation with critical deadlines.
Ability to work closely with users in defining and documenting high-level business requirements.
Ability to work closely with users in determining needs and documents accordingly.
Must be able to manage several active projects simultaneously.
Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
